About

The mission.

Investigative inquiry is a discipline, not an instinct. It can be taught, it can be standardized, and it can be protected from its own worst tendencies. That is the work this site documents.

PlausibleAdmission.org documents a methodology: not what to investigate, but how. How to ask the question without being captured by it. How to follow a pattern without mistaking it for a finding. How to reach the threshold of a plausible admission — and know when you’ve reached it. How to retire a hypothesis honestly when the documentary record won’t carry it.

The companion site

PlausibleDenial.org documents intelligence agency conduct and history — what institutions do to stay below the threshold of accountability. Plausible Admission documents the methodology for overcoming that threshold.

Two sites. One purpose.

On the name

“Plausible deniability” is the strategy. We kept the word plausible deliberately. It is their word. Here, it is turned against the protection it was built to provide.

That said, an honest note: the absence of conclusive evidence also protects innocent people from false accusation, and not every gap between conduct and accountability is a cover-up. The methodology is aimed at the cases where the gap is wide, the conduct is institutional, and the documentary record is rich enough to bridge it. Where those conditions don’t obtain, the discipline is to say less, not more.

A working document

This site is a working document, not a finished thesis. The methodology is iterative: principles are added when the existing ones leave a real gap (Principle 7 was one such addition); pages are sharpened when an argument turns out to lean on something it shouldn’t (the original Principle 1 was a quiet conflation of two distinct ideas, since separated); language is tightened, examples are added, case studies arrive as they complete Phase Two review.

The same discipline the methodology demands of an investigation applies to the methodology itself: any change has to survive scrutiny, and any claim that turns out not to survive scrutiny is retired, not quietly buried. Where the prose says one thing and the principles imply another, that is the methodology not yet finished doing its work — and the gap is what the next revision is for.
